In 2015, Susan Johnson and her son Nick Jones started walking people through downtown Flagstaff after dark. There was no script bought from a franchise, just the stories she had spent decades pulling out of the archives, checked against the record and told on the sidewalks where they happened.
That is still the arrangement. The tour pages put it in one line: stories unearthed by local author Susan Johnson. She does the research, the guides carry it into the night, and the walk changes as the research does.
What began as one Flagstaff route now walks three Arizona towns: Flagstaff, Tucson, and Prescott.
